Chilcote Girls vs Hollywood Girls

On Friday 17th November the Chilcote Girls' football team played their sixth league fixture against Hollywood school. This would be their last game before the winter break.

The game started badly for Chilcote as Hollywood came flying out of the blocks and put Chilcote under immediate pressure. They won a couple of corners in a row and from one of these Chilcote cleared the ball but it got played back in to a Hollywood player who was free in the area. She turned and slotted the ball home with ease. From then on Chilcote fought their way into the match. They gradually got more possession and moved up the pitch to put the Hollywood goal under some pressure. After 10 minutes, Tamsin showed lovely skill to turn and pass the ball to Anna who ran a long way with the ball before slotting it into the corner past the keeper to make it 1v1.

In the second half, Chilcote were playing down hill and their confidence was high. They had a lot of the ball and put Hollywood under quite a bit of pressure. They just could not find a way past their keeper until Anna passed the ball to Tamsin on the edge of the box she shot but it went to Summer who turned and fired the ball under the keeper to make it 2v1. Chilcote survived a late rally from Hollywood and one glorious chance for them to equalize to win the tight game 2v1.

An excellent comeback and a great performance from the girls. Well done to all involved!!!

Year 6 Mixed Hockey Tournament

On Wednesday 15th November two teams from Chilcote represented the school at a mixed hockey tournament that took place at Hollywood primary school.

The tournament was split into two competitions - one for the 'a' team and one for the 'b' team. Both competitions followed the quick sticks rules.

The 'b' team played in a round robin format where they played two other schools twice. In their two games against the Oaks they lost both in close encounters. One game finished 2v1 and the other 1v0. In their two games against Hollywood they won both. The first game was 3v0 and the second game was 1v0. This meant that they finished in second place in their competition!

The 'a' team were in a group with two other schools and played each other twice too. The winners of the group would qualify for the final against the winners from the other group. Against Yardley Wood Chilcote drew 2v2 and then won 1v0. Against Hollywood Chilcote drew 1v1 and won 2v1, with a last minute goal to win the game. This meant they finished top of the group and go through to the final. In the final they played against the Oaks. The game was really close with both schools having chances to score. Unfortunately for Chilcote, the Oaks managed to score one of their chances and won the final 1v0.  It really could have gone either way!

Both teams received silver medals for their finishing positions and represented the school really well. Well done to all involved!!!

Commemorating Remembrance day in Reception

On Friday 10th November, we learned about what Remembrance day is, why we wear poppies and why it is important to commemorate this important day. We painted poppies and decorated them with glitter and observed the 2 minute silence at 11 o`clock.
Later Reception attended the whole school assembly and listened to some of our school trumpet players playing `The Last Post`.

South Birmingham 5-a-side heats

On Tuesday 7th November the Chilcote boys’ football team played in the heats of the South Birmingham 5-a-side competition. The winners of the heats would qualify for the final. Four teams entered and they had to play each other once.

Chilcote started with a game against St Ambrose Barlow. The match was a closely contested affair with Chilcote creating the better chances, three one on ones to be exact. Unfortunately, they did not take any of them. This meant the game finished 0v0.

In their second game Chilcote played against Yarnfield, who had drawn their first game too. They played well and broke the deadlock halfway through the match. Again they were wasteful in front of goal though. They did manage to score a second to win the game 2v0.

Finally, they played Yardley Wood and only a victory would mean they could qualify for the finals night. Straight from the kick off Chilcote had a glorious chance but missed the target. They then had another really good chance but again missed it. Yardley Wood then had a chance of their own and scored. Then, Chilcote conceded again through an own goal which was very unlucky. They lost the game 2v0.

When all the results were in, the heat was very close between the teams. All the teams had won, drew and lost one game. Yarnfield finished last on -1 goal difference, Chilcote and St Ambrose finished joint second with a goal difference of 0 and Yardley Wood came first with a goal difference of +1.

Well done to all of the boys. On another night they could have qualified!

Chilcote Boys vs Yardley Wood

On Friday 3rd November the Chilcote boys’ football team played against Yardley Wood school at Yardley Wood playing fields.

This was their final league game before Christmas. If the boys drew or won the game then they would be the winners of their group and qualify for the top league after Christmas.

The game started well for both teams with both playing good football and trying to create an opening. The first clear cut chance fell to Chilcote via the penalty spot. Dylan hit the ball well but put it the wrong side of the post. Chilcote were just shading things but struggled to get a goal. Then, Yardley Wood got a lucky ricochet which fell to their striker who side stepped the goalkeeper and scored to make it 1v0.

In the second half, Chilcote improved and started to take control of the game. They created a few half chances and a couple of really good chances but either they put it wide or the Yardley Wood goalie was equal to the attempt. With 10 minutes to go Chilcote went all out attack with both forwards on and a few minutes from the end it paid off as they got the deserved equaliser through Harrison who was in the right place at the right time when the goalkeeper spilled the ball. Right at the death Ben had a chance to win the game but put the ball the wrong side of the post. A tough match and a good point which means the boys have won their group!

Well done to all involved for a great comeback and good result!!!

Chilcote Boys Vs Moseley

On Tuesday 31st October the Chilcote boys' football team played their third league game against Moseley school at Yardley Wood playing fields.

In the first half the game started pretty evenly with neither side controlling e match. Slowly but surely Chilcote began to get on top and halfway through the half Gino found Ben with a great pass and he slotted home to make it 1v0. Soon after the same combination got Ben in again but the Moseley goalie pulled off a great save. At half time it was 1v0 to Chilcote.

In the second half the game was again quite even. Five minutes into the half and Chilcote broke from a Moseley corner, Dylan fed Ben who again made no mistake one on one with the keeper and made it 2v0. Chilcote had a few other chances to score but then Moseley had a long range effort that found the top corner, which made for a nervy last five minutes. Fortunately, a couple of minutes before the end Josh managed to get a third goal for Chilcote as he calmly finished a rebounded shot. The game ended 3v1.

A superb performance from all the boys and another great result. Well done to all!!!

Chilcote Girls Vs Percy Shurmer

On Tuesday 31st October Chilcote girls played against Percy Shurmer in the girls' league. This was their fifth fixture so far. The game was played at Yardley Wood playing fields.

The first half started brightly for both teams with neither side taking control. Gradually as the half wore on Percy began to dominate but could not find a way past the Chilcote back-line.  Chilcote had their best chance if the half towards the end when Tara went on a long run but she couldnt find a finish. 0v0 at half time.

In the second half Percy continued their domination of the match and halfway through the half found the break through! Then, Chilcote had their best spell of he match and Anna almost scored after a bulldozing run up he pitch. Unfortunately her shot went just past the post. Then Tamsin hit a free kick towards goal but the goalie managed to save and hold the ball. In the last few moments Percy scored a second and the game ended 2v0.

Another battling gutsy display from the Chilcote girls who are getting better every week! Well done to all!!!

Year 4 Recorder concert Friday 20th October 2017

Year 4 have been learning to play the descant recorder this term. They have learned to read music from the stave (traditional music notation), play with a good quality tone and perform pieces at a suitable tempo (speed). We held a concert for our families and Mrs Thomas and the Year 4 staff were very proud of the pupil`s performances. Super team work everyone. We hope you enjoy the attached recordings.

Dear all,

As you may or may not be aware, Year 6 recently completed a competition to advertise the forthcoming visit of a special guest speaker, Neil Griffiths, to Chilcote Primary School. As always all the competition entries were outstanding. Look below to see a little taster of them - or hopefully you might catch the real life entries around the school.

Neil is an expert in English, especially in the art of storytelling and reading aloud and he will be visiting Chilcote Primary School on the 15th November 2017 to meet the children, conduct a staff meeting and hold a talk to parents (which everyone is invited to).

The event for the parents will begin at 2:35pm and conclude at 3:15pm. We would like as many people to attend as possible, as this is an amazing event and doesn’t happen every day! At the end Neil will be selling books and, probably, signing them too! What else could you wish for?!

You can find out more about Neil at:

Thanks for reading,

Josh, Year 6.

Chilcote Girls vs St Bernards

On Friday 20th October the Chilcote girls' football team played their next league fixture against St Bernards at Yardley Wood playing fields.

The game started with St Bernards on top. They played some lovely football but to their credit the Chilcote girls defended valiantly. Unfortunately, after 5 minutes St Bernards took the lead when one of their players raced past the Chilcote rearguard and found the back of the net. 5 minutes later the same thing happened again and St Bernards had a 2v0 lead. Then, Chilcote were awarded a free kick just outside of the box which Tamsin took and smashed into the bottom corner of the goal to make the score 2v1 at half time.

In the second half, St Bernards had the hill with them and were attacking all the time but the Chilcote players defended excellently again and Katie pulled off some good saves in goal. Chilcote did have some attacks of their own but unfortunately they did not come to anything. Just before the end of the game St Bernards scored again to make the score 3v1.

Despite the defeat the girls deserve a massive amount of credit for their performance and defensive solidarity. They were all excellent and represented the school superbly. Well done to all!!!

Junior Choir visit Brook Meadow Court

Junior Choir visited Brook Meadow Court residential home today to sing to the residents. We enjoyed performing the songs that we have been learning this term and the residents were a very appreciative audience. We then chatted to the residents and enjoyed refreshments before returning to school. Everyone in Junior Choir represented the school very well with their friendly and polite behaviour.
We thoroughly enjoyed our trip and would like to thank Brook Meadow Court for inviting us.
We would also like to thank Mr and Mrs Davis, Mrs Tuller, Ms Walji and Mrs Rafter for accompanying us.

Year 6 Cross Country

On Tuesday 17th October twelve children from Year 6 represented the school at a cross county competition at Walkers Heath Park. The children had to run a distance of 1200m.

The six girls ran first. There were approximately 50 participants. After two gruelling laps Chilcote finished in 14th, 17th, 22nd, 43rd, 45th and 46th. The lowest four scores were totalled together to make a score of 96 for the girls.

The six boys ran second. There were again approximately 50 entries. Chilcote finished in 4th, 15th, 16th, 38th, 40th and 44th. The lowest four scores were totalled together to give a total score for the boys of 73.

This meant that overall Chilcote finished on 169 as a combined score. Therefore, Chilcote finished in 5th place overall out of 9 schools.

All the children did really well and represented the School fantastically!!!

Girls' football - Chilcote vs Severne Road

On Monday 16th October the Chilcote girls' football team played their third league fixture of the year against Severne Road Primary School. The match took place at Yardley Wood playing fields.

The match started as an even affair with both teams trying to impose themselves on the match. Slowly but surely Chilcote began to dominate the game, although Severne looked dangerous on the break. Chilcote had two good chances to score in the first half, both fell to Tamsin. She scored with one of them but it was disallowed due to a handball in the build up and then she hit the ball just over the bar from a long range shot. The half ended 0v0.

In the second half Chilcote quickly regained their control and put Severne under a lot of pressure. Eventually after a few more missed chances Anna curled a shot into the top corner after she intercepted a pass to make it 1v0. Then, shortly afterwards Tamsin hit a corner into the box and it went in off a defenders knee which made the score 2v0.

This means the girls have now won 2 and lost 1 of their league games.

Well done to all of the girls another fantastic performance!!!

Girls' football - Chilcote vs The Oaks

On Friday 13th October the Chilcote girls’ football team played against The Oaks School in their second league fixture.

The game started off quite scrappy with The Oaks having more of the ball in the Chilcote half of the pitch. Typically though it was Chilcote who had the first chamce of the game with Anna putting the ball wide from a cut back. The Oaks continued to huff and puff but didn’t work Katie in the Chilcote goal. Anna then had another great chance but the defender made a great block to deny her.  Just before the end of the half The Oals had their best shot of the match but Latie pulled off a great save to keep the score level at the break.

In the second half The Oaks continued to have more possession and attacks. Chilcote defended well throughout the half and ventured forward occasionally on the counter attack. Unfortunately, they didn't really test the opposition goalie. Then three minutes from the end disaster struck as The Oaks played a nice passing move and found their striker who duly found the bottom corner. They had another chance just before the end but Katie produced a great double save. The game ended 1v0.

A great effort from all of the girls and a good performance, well done to all!!!

Mixed Netball: Chilcote Vs Cedars Academy

On Thursday 12th October Chilcote's mixed netball team played their second league fixture at home against Cedars Academy.

In the first quarter, both teams were just feeling their way into the game and Cedars had the upper hand. They were in around Chilcote's semi-circle for a long period of time. However, they did not manage to score so it ended 0v0.

The second quarter was a complete role reversal and Chilcote dominated the match having at least six great chances to score. Unfortunately, they only managed to take one of these chance, but this did mean they ended the quarter 1v0 up.

In the third quarter the game carried on in the same vain with Chilcote dominating the game and having a further five chances to score, but again their finishing let them down and they didn't take any of the chances that came their way. Then, as if to rub salt into the wounds Cedars scored with their only real chance of the quarter and with the last throw of the quarter to make the game 1v1.

In the final quarter, Chilcote started well but again missed their various opportunities to score. Halfway through the half Cedars managed to score another goal to take the lead in the match. From that moment Chilcote struggled to get back into their rhythm and Cedars were on top.

Despite having lots of chances to score Chilcote's inability to convert them meant they lost the game 2v1. All of the players tried their best and represented the school well!

Year 5 and 6 boys football match vs Highters Heath

On Friday 5th October the Chilcote boys’ football team played their first league fixture against Highters Heath School.

The match started really well for Chilcote with Madison scoring in the second minute from long range. This set the pattern of the game, Chilcote dominated and soon had a second goal through Dylan. Chilcote were starting to enjoy themselves and soon Ben got in on the act and scored his first of the night. Josh then rounded off a great team move with a calm composed finish. Just before half time Highters scored from a long kick forwards which the Chilcote defence didnt deal with and their forward finished his chance well.

In the second half Chilcote carried on their attacking ways Harrison scored two and Ben also grabbed another 2 giving him his hat-trick for the evening. Then, Chilcote switched off in the last few minutes and some slack marking from a corner gave Highters a consolation goal. They then added another after a pinball moment in the box. The game finished 8v3 to Chilcote.

Well done to all of the boys on a great performance and result!!!

Year 5 and 6 mixed netball match vs Harborne

On Thursday 5th October Chilcote’s mixed netball team played against Harborne school in their first high 5 netball league match.

In the first quarter it quickly became apparent how good Harborne were! They were well drilled and knew their stuff they quickly went into a 6v0 lead.

In the second quarter it was more of the same although Chilcote improved defensively and only conceded 4. The children were using the match as a learning experience, as the Hadborne team were lethal every time they had the ball and punished every mistake.

In the third quarter, Chilcote enjoyed their best spell in the match they rallied and had some attacks of their own. Shayan even managed to bag a goal. The score in this quarter was 2v1 to Harborne.

In the fourth quarter, Harborne regained their superiority and they finished with a flurry of goals. There was just nothing the Chilcote players could do despite their best efforts. Chilcote did manage to grab another consolation goal. The final quarter finished 9v1 to Harborne.

All the children gave their all and tried their best. Harborne were just too good on the day. Everyone should be proud of themselves!!!

Year 6 Girls Match vs St Ambrose

On Monday 2nd October the Chilcote girls’ football team played their first league fixture against St Ambrose Barlow.

The game was a spirited affair with both teams trying their best to put passing moves together and create chances. Despite this the score at half time was 0v0.

In the second half, both teams huffed and puffed but could not break each other down. Chilcote arguably had the slightly better chances but they were of a premium. That was until the last minute of the match and Tanisha ran down the wing shot the ball towards goal and it squirmed through the goalies legs to give Chilcote a 1v0 lead and also a 1v0 win.

All the girls represented the school really well and should be proud of themselves!!!

Year 5 and 6 Girls' 7-a-side Tournament

On Friday 29th September the Chilcote girls' football team took part in the South Birmingham 7-a-side competition at Yardley Wood playing fields. The girls were put into a small league with 3 other teams, who they played once each.

In their first game the girls played against St Bernards school in a very tough match. They found it hard to get out and attack and unfortunately lost the game 1v0.

In the second match of the tournament they played against St Ambrose Barlow and despite having more of the ball in this game they could not find a way past the opposition keeper. The match ended 0v0.

Finally, the girls played against Yardley Wood school. Yardley Wood had a few more chances and eventually they managed to find the back of the net. Chilcote did have a few chances of their own but din't manage to score. The game ended 1v0 to Yardley Wood.

This meant that the girls finished in third place in their group and did not qualify for the semi finals. All the girls did really well and represented the school superbly, well done girls!!!

Year 4 mixed football 5-a-side competition

On Wednesday 20th September eight Year 4 children represented Chilcote at a mixed football competition. The competition took place at Kings Heath Boys School. There were five teams at the tournament and each team played each other once in a league format.

Chilcote started out with a game against Bells Farm who were a very good side. It was a tight game with Chilcote finding it hard to score, but with not long left on the clock James hit a curling effort that the keeper could only touch into her own net.

In their second game Chilcote played against Yardley Wood. They started really well and scored quite quickly. They then added a second and third goal to run out 3v0 winners.

In the third game Chilcote played against Hollywood. This was a tough match as Hollywood had won their first two games too. Chilcote took the lead with their first attack before adding a second not long afterwards. Not long before the end Hollywood got a goal with a long range shot. This made for a nervy finish. Chilcote held firm though and won 2v1.

Finally, Chilcote played against the Oaks. Chilcote played really well and managed to score 4 goals in the game. This meant that they won 4v0.

Therefore, Chilcote topped the league at the end of the night having won every game and only conceding 1 goal.

Well done to all of the children who were involved as they represented the school brilliantly and performed excellently!!!

South Birmingham 7-a-side

On Friday 15th September the Chilcote boys' football team took part in their first tournament of the year - the South Birmingham 7-a-side tournament. The tournament took place at Yardley Wood playing fields. A total of fourteen schools entered the tournament and were split into four groups.

Chilcote were drawn in a group with Clifton and Acocks Green. They played Acocks Green first and won 1v0. Then, they beat Clifton 1v0 as well. They then played the two schools again and beat them both 2v0 this time. Therefore, Chilcote finished top of the group and qualified for the semi finals.

In the semi finals Chilcote played against St Ambrose Barlow. It was a good game that Chilcote dominated but they just could not get a goal. After normal time and extra time the game ended 0v0. This meant penalties. Chilcote managed to win 2v1 on penalties and deservedly got to the final.

In the final Chilcote played against Colmore. Colmore were the better side in the match and had the ball in Chilcote's half for long periods but they couldn't find a goal. This meant that the match again went to penalties. Chilcote missed their first two penalties. Which meant Colmore needed to score to win, but they didn't and then Chilcote scored their first penalty in sudden death and Colmore again missed, meaning Chilcote were the winners!

Well done to all of the boys involved as they represented the school brilliantly! They now get to go to a county tournament and represent South Birmingham!

Junior Choir at Symphony Hall

On the evening of Friday 21st July, Junior Choir sang with 500 other children from 14 different primary schools at one of the  Music Service Gala concerts in Symphony hall. We also had the opportunity to watch other musical ensembles- including the Birmingham Schools Jazz band and the Birmingham Schools Symphony Orchestra.
We sang 7 songs that we have been practising at school and wore xylobands to create light effects when we performed our actions.
Everyone performed well and our choir were a credit to our school. Thank you very much to Mrs Rafter and Mrs Bundy who came with us and supported us so enthusiastically.

Year 1's 'Our Garden' homework projects

On Monday the 17th July Year 1 children proudly displayed their fabulous homework projects. The pupil's task was to design and make their ideal garden. The children were free to show their work in anyway they liked, for example a poster, model or sculpture. Please see some of the wonderful examples below.

The homework project was based around the children's current Topic of 'Insects and Flowers'. The children have been learning about plants, trees and mini beasts and their habitats.
Thank you to parents for their support in undertaking the project and the Year 1 staff were pleased to see lots of parents come to the exhibition after school. The children really enjoyed showing their work to friends and family.
